- Vision for BrightHouse Academy conceived by Mr. Oladele Oyelola, focusing on promoting educational excellence in Okun land.
What began as a visionary dream has blossomed into a thriving educational institution, dedicated to excellence and community empowerment. Brighthouse Academy's journey is one of passion, perseverance, and progress.
Brighthouse Academy traces its roots back to 1977, when a young Mr. Oladele Oyelola boldly declared to his close friends that he would one day establish the "Ijumu Academy of Science." His inspiration stemmed from a deep desire to promote and sustain the educational advantage of the Okun people.
"Growing up proud of my heritage, nowhere else felt like home to me more than Ijumu (Okun land). I was passionate about placing Okun land firmly on the map as a beacon of educational excellence."
Throughout the years, Mr. Oyelola consistently shared his dream with friends.
"Thankfully, they did not behave like Joseph’s brothers—they didn’t laugh at my dream or try to kill it! Thanks, guys!"
With a steadfast commitment to his vision, he focused on building a successful career that would provide the resources needed to bring his dream to life. Fast forward forty years, and the vision reignited. Drawing on years of experience, he set plans into motion—developing frameworks, exploring possibilities, and studying success stories to lay the groundwork for Brighthouse Academy.
Initially, the goal was to establish a secondary school. However, after consulting with an International Education Consultant Group from South Africa, he realized that fostering educational excellence for the Okun people required a strong foundation. With the decline of basic education in Okun land, it became clear that addressing early education was imperative to achieving the Academy’s broader mission.
"If my experience over the past forty years has taught me anything, it’s the importance of a strong foundation and a reliable system with effective controls, checks, and balances."
Thus, the vision expanded into a comprehensive educational model—one that would provide a fully integrated learning system for Okun children, from early childhood through secondary education.
With the vision now crystal clear, the next phase involved securing resources, constructing school facilities, and assembling a team of passionate educators. Thanks to the unwavering support of generous donors, dedicated community members, and key stakeholders, Brighthouse Academy welcomed its first batch of students in September 2024.
