What began as a visionary concept has blossomed into a thriving educational institution dedicated to excellence and community empowerment. Our story is one of passion, perseverance, and progress.
Brighthouse Academy was birthed in 1977 when as a young man, Mr Olade,e Oyelola proudly declared to his close friends that he would build the "Ijumu Academy of Science" when he growsup. His inspiration was to promote and maintain the educational advantage of the Okun people.
Growing up proud of my heritage, nowhere else held the calling and love of home for me like Ijumu (Okun land). I was passionate about placing Okun land clearly on the map as a place of reference for educational excellence.
As the years went by, Mr Oyelola constantly repeated this idea to his friends, “...and thankfully, they did not behave like Joseph’s brothers; they didn't laugh at my huge dream or try to kill it! Thanks, guys!”
As he established my place in life, the vision remained. He focused on building a successful career to fuel his vision. Fast forward forty years later, the vision reignited. With the experience gathered over the years, Mr Oyelola in motion activities to actualize this vision: setting up frameworks, looking at possibilities, and studying success stories. The initial vision was to establish a secondary school, however, after engaging an International Education Consultant Group from South Africa, he understood to promote educational advantage for the Okune, a strong foundation was crucial. With the collapse of the basic education in Okun land, establishing a school to correct this critical first stage of basic education became imperative to ensure the full achievement of his objective for the Academy.
If my experience over the past forty years has taught me anything, it is the importance of a good foundation and a reliable system with controls, checks, and balances.
Hence, the vision expanded to include establishing a fully holistic and integrated education system for Okun children.
Brighthouse Academy’s path to realization began: the Academy will provide Nursery, Primary, and Secondary education.
The vision is that every graduate from the Academy will be a product of excellent education and can confidently take their stance anywhere in the world.
Building the Academy
The next phase involved securing resources, constructing the school infrastructure, and assembling a team of passionate educators. With the support of generous donors, community members, and stakeholders, Brighthouse Academy opens its doors to the first batch of pupils in September 2024.
Growing and Evolving
Brighthouse Academy will continue to evolve We will expand our facilities, introduce innovative teaching methods, and enhance our programs to meet the changing needs of our students and the global community. Our commitment to excellence has remained steadfast, with a focus on fostering self-directed inquiry, authentic engagement, dynamic learning groupings, and ongoing observation.
Brighthouse Academy remains dedicated to its mission of providing exceptional education and fostering a lifelong love of learning.
We are excited about the upcoming launch of our Secondary School and Technical College, which will further extend our impact and offer more opportunities for our students.
